🚨🇹🇷 AFP DEMANDS RELEASE OF DETAINED JOURNALIST IN TURKEY

Agence France-Presse is calling for the immediate release of its photographer Yasin Akgul, who was arrested in Turkey on Tuesday while covering protests sparked by the recent detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu.

AFP chairman Fabrice Fries urged the Turkish presidency to intervene, calling Akgul’s imprisonment “unacceptable.”

Fries:

"Yasin Akgul was not part of the protest.

As a journalist, he was simply doing his job."

Calls for his release are now gaining international attention as press freedom concerns mount in the country.
