🇺🇸 HOUSE OKs NEW RULE TO LET NEW PARENTS IN CONGRESS VOTE FROM HOME

The House just passed a new rule letting lawmakers who’ve had a baby or adopted a child vote by proxy — meaning another member can vote on their behalf — for up to 12 weeks.

It’s meant to help new moms and dads in Congress care for their families without losing their ability to represent voters.

The rule passed 222-206, with support from all Democrats and 9 Republicans, even though GOP leaders tried to block it.

Supporters say it’s basic parental leave that finally brings Congress in line with the real world.

Critics, including Speaker Mike Johnson, say lawmakers should always show up to vote in person.

This only applies to the House — the Senate still requires members to vote on the floor.
