Ukraine's overnight attack killed an 85-year-old woman and injured 9 others, according to Russian officials.
The attack sparked fires in a multi-storey apartment building, damaged an ambulance garage, and left parts of the city center scorched.
Russia claims it shot down 109 drones but gave no estimate of how many were launched.
It comes a day after 3 people were killed in a separate strike - making Kursk look more like a frontline than a border city.
