1. Trump hinted at a breather for U.S carmakers as tariffs on foreign auto parts loom. Speaking from the Oval Office, he said he’s considering a “temporary exemption” to give companies time to switch from parts made in Canada, Mexico, and beyond to U.S-made components.

2. During his visit to the White House, El Salvador’s President Bukele said he was unable to return accidentally deported Savadorian Kilmar Abrego Garcia: “How can I return him to the United States? How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States? I don't have the power to return him to the United States.”

3. Ukraine launched a massive overnight drone strike on Russia’s Kursk region, which killed an 85-year-old woman and injured 9 others. The attack sparked fires in a multi-story apartment building, damaged an ambulance garage, and left parts of the city center scorched.

4. Beijing lit up U.S Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent, after he called China’s Latin American deals “rapacious aid” that buries countries in debt. The Chinese embassy in Argentina hit back hard, accusing the U.S of “malicious slander” and telling Washington to quit whining and mind its own business.

5. Russia is trying to park long-range bombers just 1,300km from Darwin, asking Indonesia for access to an airbase in Papua. Australian PM Albanese fired back, slamming Putin as a lawbreaking authoritarian and making it clear Australia isn’t here for Moscow’s regional cosplay.
