MARS HAS AURORAS YOU CAN SEE — AND PERSEVERANCE JUST CAUGHT ONE

For the first time, a visible aurora has been photographed from the surface of Mars, thanks to NASA’s Perseverance rover.

The image shows a dim green glow wrapping the Martian horizon — like a ghostly halo for future astronauts.

Unlike Earth, Mars has no global magnetic field.

But crustal patches mean auroras pop up randomly, faint and everywhere.

And yes, they’re visible to the naked eye — faint, low, and green.
