One of five inmates who escaped from Vale de Judeus prison near Lisbon has been captured in Morocco.
Fabio Loureiro, 33, was arrested in Tangier and faces extradition to Portugal, where he is serving a 25-year sentence for armed robbery and other crimes.
The escape occurred on Sept. 7 during visiting hours, aided by an outside accomplice.
The prison guards’ union has raised concerns about inadequate staffing and security, particularly after watchtowers were replaced with video surveillance.
Four escapees remain at large.
