Egypt Files #1 | Harat Al-Yahud

What’s the connection between Sisi, Nasser, Moshe Dayan, Isaac Laffon, and Eli Cohen?

Harat Al-Yahud: This is where Sisi, Nasser, Moshe Dayan,Isaac Laffon and the spy Eli Cohen were born and lived.

On the fourth and top floor of building number 7 at the “Barquqiya” corner of “Al-Kharnafish” street in Harat Al-Yahud, Egyptian army general Abdel Fattah al-Sisi was born, raised, and lived with his parents and siblings during his childhood and youth.

Not far from his home in the “Khamis Al-Adas” neighborhood lived Israeli army general and Defense Minister Moshe Dayan, ( he was not born in Egypt he just spent his childhood years there) who resided across the street from Egyptian army officer Gamal Abdel Nasser when Nasser’s family moved from Suez Governorate to Cairo and settled in Harat Al-Yahud.

Next to Nasser’s house lived Isaac Laffon, who planned the sabotage attacks and the burning of Jewish property in Egypt to intimidate and scare them into migrating to Israel. He was joined by Marcel Nino, Philip Natan, Meir Yosef, Zafran, Robert Nasim Dasa.

all of whom were residents of the neighborhood.

Close to Sicily Street, now known as Sogha Street, at house number 26 in Harat Al-Yahud, the most famous Israeli Mossad officer and spy, “Eli Cohen,” who was known in Syria as “Kamel Amin Thabet,” was born and lived. He reached high ranks in Syria and connected with prominent figures in the Syrian army and regime.

Harat Al-Yahud is a neighborhood located near Muski Street in downtown Cairo and is currently part of the Al-Jamaleya district. It is not a small alley as its name suggests; it is a complete neighborhood comprising about 360 alleys and streets.

The neighborhood was divided into two sections: one for the Rabbanite Jews and the other for the Karaite Jews.
