An 11-year-old girl from Sierra Leone is the sole survivor of a shipwreck that sank with 45 people aboard after departing from Sfax, Tunisia.
Rescuers found her clinging to 2 car inner tubes and wearing a flimsy life vest.
She had survived alone in the water for 2 days after her companions disappeared.
The girl, suffering from hypothermia, was brought to Italy’s Lampedusa Island, a key landing point for migrants making the dangerous Mediterranean crossing, where she is now receiving care.
Over 24,300 lives have been lost on this perilous route since 2014.
