🔁Mario Nawfal:
🚨🇬🇧🇨🇩 UK ON ALERT AS MYSTERY ILLNESS SPREADS IN DRC
A deadly illness in the Democratic Republic of Congo has exploded from 419 to 1,096 cases, with deaths rising from 53 to 60.
Symptoms?
Fever, chills, stiff neck, vomiting, and in some cases, death within two days.
Ebola and Marburg are ruled out, but half of cases tested positive for malaria.
Now, experts are checking for meningitis, food, and water contamination.
The outbreak may have started after three children ate a bat, sparking fears of a new zoonotic virus.
Assoc. Prof. in Viral Immunology at the University of Birmingham, Dr Zania Stamataki:
“Infections know no borders and do not respect country lines.
People travel and infections travel with them, either hitching a ride in a person or in animal carriers, so one cannot exclude spread outside of a country’s borders.”
