🇺🇸🇷🇺INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: BORN FROM REVOLUTION, NOT HALLMARK CARDS

Before it was about hashtags and flowers, International Women’s Day started with fire.

IIn 1908 New York, 15,000 women took to the streets, demanding better wages, shorter hours, and the right to vote—because factories were dangerous, work was brutal, and they were paid pennies.

A year later, the movement spread across Europe.

Then came March 8, 1917, in Russia, when women, exhausted by war and food shortages, walked out of factories chanting “bread and peace.”

Their protest swelled into mass strikes that forced the Tsar to abdicate—a revolution started, in part, by women refusing to back down.

Since then, International Women’s Day has been a day of rebellion, a political battleground, and, in some places, a state holiday.

In the U.S., International Women's day is more symbolic.

In Russia and former Soviet nations, it’s celebrated almost like Mother’s Day, with men giving women flowers and chocolates

At its core, this day has never been about small gestures—it’s about power, fairness, and pushing the world forward.

So celebrate the women in your life today—but remember, real change was never given, it is always fought for. And the fight isn’t over.
