The USDA will reinstate over 5,000 probationary employees who were fired in February, following a Merit Systems Protection Board ruling that found the terminations may have been unlawful.
The workers, including recent hires and promoted employees, will return to duty with full backpay while the case plays out.
The USDA says it will develop a phased return plan but will ensure all affected employees are paid immediately.
