🔁Mario Nawfal:
🇱🇾 TRIPOLI STOPS SHOOTING—FOR NOW
Libya’s capital just saw its worst street fighting in years, as rival armed groups turned neighborhoods into war zones.
The clashes began after Abdulghani Kikli, a major militia leader also known as Ghaniwa, was killed.
What followed was chaos: gun battles across the city, families hiding in their homes, and weeks of tension snapping overnight into warfare.
The main fight?
Between the 444 Brigade (loyal to Libya’s Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah) and Rada, one of the few remaining powerful groups not on his side.
To calm things down, the government deployed unarmed police units to “sensitive sites.”
It worked—for now. An hour after a ceasefire was announced, the shooting stopped.
But this is Libya: a country still recovering from its 2011 revolution, a 2014 civil war, and endless factional battles.
Its oil wealth and location have made it a hotspot for foreign interference from countries like Turkey, Russia, Egypt, and the UAE.
UNSMIL:
“We are deeply alarmed by the escalating violence in densely populated neighborhoods of Tripoli.”
The last ceasefire was in 2020. This one? It’s anyone’s guess.
