With Assad fleeing to Russia, the Kremlin said it’s too early to talk about the fate of its prized military bases.

Translation: they’re sweating over Hmeimim airbase and the Tartous naval facility, two jewels in their Mediterranean crown.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia’s military is “taking precautions” but admitted talks with Syria’s new rulers will decide everything.

As for Assad, he’s enjoying Russian asylum - Putin’s latest guest in the “leaders in exile” club.
