Russia has opened “constructive” talks with Syria’s top rebel group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
Yes, the same group that’s been at odds with Syria’s government for years.
According to Deputy FM Mikhail Bogdanov, this is all about “maintaining order” and protecting diplomats.
Meanwhile, Russia is holding tight to its military bases in Tartous and Latakia, calling them vital for fighting ISIS.
Apparently, the war on terror isn’t over – or at least not where Moscow’s interests are involved.
Oh, and the UN is in on this too, discussing peace, unity, and all the usual buzzwords.
