Iranian singer Hiva Seyfizadeh was arrested in Tehran for performing as the sole female singer in front of men, violating Iran’s strict laws on women in music.

Authorities shut down the concert venue, and Iran’s cyber police seized Seyfizadeh’s Instagram account, citing “criminal content.”

Though she was released on bail, the concert organizer remains in custody.

This comes as Iran escalates crackdowns on women’s rights, months after passing harsh hijab laws and arresting other female performers.
