🔁Dan Cohen:

3 weeks ago, we learned that the U.S. approached Hamas for negotiations that would result in a long term truce, rebuilding of Gaza, and Hamas giving up power and demilitarizing.

“I think that’s a reality that’s real close,” said U.S. hostage envoy Adam Boehler.

But Israel carried out an underhanded operation, either through leaks in the Trump admin or through spying, to upend the talks and resume the genocide.

Now, small protests have broken out in Gaza against the war, some of which are anti-Hamas.

The same media outlets and political forces that played along with the sabotage of negotiations to end the war and remove Hamas from power are seizing upon the protests to blame Hamas for the war itself.

These outlets turn a blind eye to Israel’s daily massacres, whitewash the Israeli regime’s openly genocidal statements, and justify its mass murder as a response to October 7, but are now suddenly hyper-focused on Palestinian “agency.”

According to them, Palestinians do not have a right to not be massacred, nor to live free of occupation, but they do have a right to protest against Hamas.

The people of Gaza - and all of Palestine - must have all of their rights respected, which means the right not only to protest against Hamas or anyone else, but to live in freedom, dignity and sovereignty.

The enemy of the Palestinian people is Israel and the Zionist ideology. Hamas is merely a reaction, a resistance force to subjugation, occupation and oppression.

To end Hamas, end the occupation. Anyone who says differently is lying or a fool.
