The World Health Organization is facing a $600 million shortfall after Trump cut all U.S. funding and launched a full withdrawal from the agency.
WHO chief Tedros confirmed in an internal email that a 21% budget cut is now being proposed—down to $4.2 billion—and global health programs and staff will be scaled back.
The U.S. was WHO’s top donor, contributing $1.3 billion in the last cycle—16% of its total budget, mostly for targeted health projects.
Tedros blamed “dramatic” U.S. cuts and a broader shift toward defense spending for the financial crisis.
