Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth just called Japan “our indispensable partner” in confronting China—and announced a major military shift: the U.S. is upgrading its Japan command to a full “war-fighting headquarters.”
During his trip to Tokyo, Hegseth said the U.S. and Japan must accelerate military cooperation, develop new missiles, and prep for a potential Taiwan emergency.
Japan, home to 50,000 U.S. troops, will now coordinate more tightly with American forces to deter Beijing.
Hegseth:
“We work for peace—but we must be prepared.”
