🚨🇫🇮🇩🇪 FINLAND SHUTS LAST COAL PLANT — WHILE GERMANY’S ENERGY COSTS PUSH INDUSTRY TO THE EDGE
Finland just closed its last coal-fired power plant in daily use, cutting emissions by 50% and the country’s total emissions by nearly 2%.
Helen, the Helsinki-based energy firm, plans to eliminate all burning by 2040 — even wood chips — and heating bills are set to drop 5.8% this year.
Meanwhile, Germany just demolished its €3B Moorburg coal plant, once capable of generating 1,654 MW, deepening an energy crisis already worsened by nuclear shutdowns and a 10% drop in electricity output over the past decade.
Now importing most of its energy, Germany is facing backlash over its green policies, with 37% of companies surveyed considering cutting production or relocating abroad due to soaring energy costs.
Two coal exits, two very different outcomes.
