CONCUSSION LINKED TO 15% DROP IN COLLEGE ATTENDANCE FOR KIDS

A single concussion in childhood may sharply reduce the chance of attending college, according to a new Finnish study.

Researchers analyzed over 136,000 patient records and found that kids treated for even mild brain injuries were 15% less likely to pursue higher education.

The study compared brain-injured children to those hospitalized for broken bones and found that educational setbacks occurred regardless of injury severity.

Lead researcher Julius Möttönen called for more attention from healthcare and schools, warning of long-term cognitive impacts from even one traumatic brain injury.

The research adds to growing concerns about pediatric concussion consequences.
