Abdullah Ocalan has hinted at calling for militants to lay down arms, marking a potential breakthrough in Turkey’s 40-year conflict that has claimed over 40,000 lives.

After a decade-long silence, Ocalan met pro-Kurdish politicians and declared he was "qualified and determined" to support a new peace process, calling the Kurdish issue "undelayable."

The proposal, spearheaded by Erdogan ally Devlet Bahceli, suggests Ocalan’s change of heart could lead to discussions on his release.

Erdogan called the moment a "historic window of opportunity."
