Riley Gaines is cheering after UPenn agreed to erase Lia Thomas’ wins and ban trans women from its women’s teams, following a federal civil rights probe.
The feds ruled Penn violated Title IX by letting Lia, who transitioned and joined the women’s team, race against cisgender women and rack up titles.
Now Penn will hand back records and trophies to female swimmers who lost out.
Gaines, who once had to pose with a 6-place trophy while Lia held the fifth, says this proves schools can’t “trample upon women’s civil rights.”
But the NCAA hasn’t said if it’ll rewrite race results, leaving the scoreboard stuck in limbo.
