🔁Mario Nawfal:
🇺🇸 TRUMP ADMIN AXES CDC INFECTION CONTROL COMMITTEE
The Trump administration has quietly terminated the CDC's Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC), the expert panel responsible for national standards on everything from hand-washing to mask-wearing in hospitals.
While members were only informed Friday, the committee was actually terminated over a month ago on March 31 - part of Trump's broader executive order to reduce the federal workforce.
The committee's web pages have already been archived, and experts warn the decision could leave America's healthcare system flying blind as infection control practices become frozen in time.
Dr. Anurag Malani, a committee member, revealed they were on the verge of finalizing new guidelines for airborne pathogens that included lessons learned from COVID-19 when the committee was axed.
Four professional societies had appealed directly to HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in March to preserve the committee, which had issued 540 recommendations over three decades - 90% of which were implemented nationwide.
