🇹🇷🇦🇲 TURKEY TO REOPEN ARMENIAN CATHEDRAL... AS A MOSQUE

The historic Armenian Cathedral of Ani is being renovated by Turkey... but don’t expect it to reopen as a church.

Ankara plans to relaunch it as a mosque, sparking outrage over what critics call another attempt to erase Armenia’s Christian heritage.

Once the crown jewel of medieval Armenian architecture, the cathedral was built in 1010 under King Gagik I and designed by Armenian architect Trdat, who also repaired Hagia Sophia’s dome.

But in Turkey’s narrative? Trdat’s Armenian roots and the cathedral’s Christian legacy are conveniently left out.

Ani, once dubbed the “City of 1,001 Churches,” is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

For Armenians, it’s a spiritual and cultural icon.

For Turkey, it’s becoming another chapter in rewriting history.
